Its the eve before an event.... (figuratively)

Soooo this is our first zine swap. I am excited and nervous.... Listen... I would be lying if i said I knew what I was doing. For any of this. The truth is that each year, it feels like the first event. More questions than answers, and the process is all about finding and sharing all the information I can to those who are participating- artists or visitors.

Along the way, I always learn more, pick up new resources, and meet new people. Last year I really wanted to do a hyper local focused swap with the local branch of Kitsap Regional Library and People's Exchange- the swap was born.

So what happens in the final hours to prepare?

  • Communication. I reach out to all parties with a final update and what to expect from me.

  • Prep. I start making my 'go pile' - the items I need to take with me. For the swap I will have some masks available, my zine making stuff, the freebeez and trades I have prepared along with my ZineFest A-Board with a Swap 'upgrade'.

  • Confirm my support. Reach out to my back ups and muscle.

With all of this ready, the morning of (Saturday) I will just have to send a text to let everyone know I'm on my way.

Set up will just be accessing the space, making some table arrangements so what there is a place for people to make things and make trades. Easy as pie. Hopefully.

Famous last words?

This is a learning experience, but it has already brought a new opportunity. Our next swap is already in process with the International Machinist Union as a host. So stay tuned.... more zines ahead.
